Download the Firmware Image
- Download the ArkOS image or any other firmware image you prefer. These images are usually archived in formats like 7z, xz, zip, etc. After downloading, extract the file.
Download and Prepare Tools
- FAT32 GUIFormat: Download this program to quickly format your SD card to FAT32.
- BalenaEtcher Portable: Download this tool to flash the firmware image.
Format the SD Card
- Launch FAT32 GUIFormat, select your SD card, and click “Start”. Wait for the process to complete, then close the program.
Flash the Firmware Image
- Open BalenaEtcher, and follow these steps:
- Select the firmware image (e.g., ArkOS or any other firmware).
- Choose the SD card you want to flash.
- Click “Flash” and wait for the process to complete.
Insert the SD Card into the Console
- Remove the SD card from your PC and insert it into the POWKIDDY RGB20S console. The console should now boot up with the new firmware.
Important Note on SD Card Quality
It’s worth noting that the included SD cards are often of poor quality. Symptoms of a bad SD card include:
- Successful flashing but inconsistent booting (sometimes the console boots, other times it gets stuck in an endless loading screen).
- Other random issues.
If you encounter these problems, the issue is likely due to a faulty SD card. Replacing the SD card with a reliable one should resolve these issues.
