When I first got the device, it had 6-7 frames per second out of the box with the stock ARK OS firmware. Here is a guide to optimize the game “Flatout Head On” on PSP:
- Flash the AmberFlec firmware.
- In the main menu, press the “Start” button to access the main menu, then select System Settings and enable OverClock. Restart the device.
- Go to System Settings again, this time enter Developer Settings, and increase VRAM limit to 648MB. Return to the main menu.
- Select the PSP emulator and the game you want, but do not launch it yet. Press the “Select” button, choose Additional System Settings, switch the emulator to ppssppSDL, activate Enable Max Performance (Yes), and return to the game list.
- Launch the selected game and wait for it to start. Then press the R3 stick to enter the emulator menu.
- Go to Game Settings and set the following:
- Rendering resolution: 1x PSP
- Uncheck VSYNC
- In Display layout & Effects, check Stretch
- Frame Skipping: 8
- Frame Skipping type: Number of Frames
- Check Auto Frameskip
- Set Alternative Speed 1 and 2 to Unlimited
- Do not check Skip buffer effects
- Check Disable culling
- Set Skip GPU Readhacks to Skip
- Check Lazy texture caching
- Set Spline/Bezier curves quality to Low
- Set Buffer graphics commands to Up to 2
- Check Hardware transform
- Check Software skinning
- Set Upscale type to Hybrid+Bicubic
- Check Deposterize
- Set Texture filtering to Linear
- In the System section, change the emulated PSP CPU Clock from 333 to 700. Click OK.
- Press Back, scroll down, and select Cheats. Check the boxes for 30 and 60 FPS. Press Back again, then Create Game Config, and finally Continue.
Now you can play. In the first few minutes, the FPS might be around 15, but it will increase significantly to 25-30 after the overclock kicks in.
