How to Update Firmware on Data Frog R35S / R36S

Steps to Update Firmware

  1. Download the latest firmware for ArkOS or EmberELEC from the provided link.
  2. On your computer, download BalenaEtcher and SD Card Formatter. (For ArkOS, Rufus is recommended instead of BalenaEtcher).
  3. Insert the microSD card into your computer and format it using SD Card Formatter. Then, launch BalenaEtcher.
    1. Select the ArkOS or EmberELEC firmware file.
    2. Select the microSD card as the target for the OS installation.
    3. Click on “Flash” and wait for the process to complete. Once done, safely eject the card.
  4. With the console turned off, insert the microSD card and power on the console. Initialization will begin.
  5. Download the desired games from the internet, insert the microSD card into your computer, and transfer the games to the appropriate folders (e.g., PSP games in the PSP folder, GBA games in the GBA folder, etc.).
  6. Done!

Using a Second microSD Card for ArkOS

  1. Insert a formatted microSD card (exFAT) into the second slot.
  2. Go to Options -> Advanced -> Switch to SD2 for ROMs.
  3. If an error message “Could not find a FAT, FAT32…” appears, the card is not compatible with the console. In my case, a Lexar 633x 64GB card didn’t work, but the stock card that came with the console did.

Using a Second microSD Card for AmberELEC

  1. After the first boot and OS initialization, turn off the console.
  2. Insert a formatted microSD card into the second slot and restart the console.
  3. The OS will automatically create the necessary partitions and folders on the second card during the second boot. If the card is not recognized, try using a different card.
